Something You Should Know This Week
Dream Jobs Around The World in 2024

This week, new data from Jobseeker shows which jobs people around the world are chasing the most in 2024. Spoiler alert: No TA or corporate HR roles to be seen in the top ten ranking. Maybe next year?

When I grow up
A recent study out of the U.K. showed that only 1 in 4 adults work in their dream childhood job. But what exactly are the most “dreamed about” jobs? Career platform Jobseeker looked at Google search trends to dig deeper. They examined global search volumes by using the search template "how to become a [JOB TITLE]" for various professions. This helped them compile a list of the top ten most coveted "dream jobs" worldwide.

This is your captain speaking …
… because the number one dream job globally is a pilot, with 50,000 monthly searches for “how to become a pilot.” While pilots often face irregular working hours, the earning potential is significant ($105,964 in the U.S.), and many enjoy the opportunity to travel, the study noted.

Rounding out the global top ten.
Following the top spot came flight attendant, model, psychologist, influencer, doctor, teacher, lawyer, firefighter and entrepreneur, respectively.

Dream jobs by country.
The study scoured search data on a country-by-country basis, too, splitting its findings by location to reveal the most desired jobs in each country and continent. Some fun ones: China’s top dream job is a journalist; Italy’s is a model; Montenegro’s is a detective; Paraguay’s is a football coach; Fiji’s is a YouTuber; Ecuador’s is a DJ. The world is dreaming!

And in the United States …
… it seems like Americans would much prefer manning the aisles of a 737 than the cockpit. The number one dream job in the United States (and in Canada, Mexico, and Brazil) is a flight attendant.
