One of our favorite takeaways from the stage came from Serco’s Director of Employee Experience Colleen Reynolds: “You don’t get a second chance to make a first impression on your brand. It all starts with the recruiting experience.” A profound, yet simple, so true! moment.

P.S. This week, we officially launched our new TA-focused job board, TalentConnect. Here, you’ll find a running feed of the newest talent acquisition roles from companies across the U.S., updated weekly. Go get that dream job! 🤝

NEWS
Something You Should Know This Week
NYT: Hottest Job in Corporate America? The Executive in Charge of A.I.

For months, many worried that artificial intelligence would kill jobs. But a new report for The New York Times highlights how companies are creating new, high-paying, executive roles to help navigate and leverage the new technology.

Introducing the Chief AI Officer.
It’s a trend spreading across all industries: the Equifax credit bureau, the manufacturer Ashley Furniture and law firms such as Eversheds Sutherland have appointed AI executives over the past year. According to the Times report, 122 people with the title of chief or vice president of AI joined a forum last year on Glassdoor, up from 19 in 2022, the company said.

Is there staying power?
Some believe the role of a CAIO might be short lived. Karin Kimbrough, the chief economist at LinkedIn, told the Times that AI would also evolve from a newfangled technology to something baked into everyone’s job. “AI will be across many roles, and it will be so ingrained that the specific AI job title will start to go away,” she said.

What about everyone else’s roles?
While flashy executive titles are on the rise, the jury is still out on how AI will impact jobs on the large. According to a recent report of 750 business leaders from ResumeBuilder, 37% said the technology replaced workers in 2023. Meanwhile, 44% reported that there will be layoffs in 2024 resulting from AI efficiency, according to CNBC. On the other hand, another report this week out of Washington showed that at the local level, AI is swelling demand for government, lobbying, legal, and administrative jobs in the D.C. region.

Priority 0: Reskilling.
Regardless of whether AI will drive job numbers up or down, one thing will remain crucial: Reskilling. In late 2023, the Harvard Business Review released a now widely-cited report about reskilling in the age of AI. “Companies have a critical role to play in addressing [the challenges behind reskilling],” the authors wrote. “It’s in their best interests to get going on it in a serious way right now.”
