🔍 The AI effect
A new report shows writers, creatives, coders are facing alarming AI disruption.
👋 Hi there! Ever had that sinking feeling a job wasn't quite... real? Turns out, some traders at the world's biggest banks know exactly how that feels. Citadel, the $62 billion investment powerhouse, just sent a stark message to recruiters: stop pitching jobs that don't exist.
Yes, you read that right – fake jobs. The warning comes after reports of headhunters allegedly using phantom roles to extract confidential information from traders at major banks. (And you thought your candidate ghosting stories were bad!)
In an industry where information is currency, this serves as a reminder that ethical recruiting isn't just nice to have – it's non-negotiable.

NEWS
One Thing You Should Know This Week
Business Insider: Post-Election Job Market Braces for Trump's Return
The verdict is in: AI's impact on the job market isn't a future concern – it's already here. A new study from Harvard Business Review analyzing over 1.3 million online job posts reveals dramatic shifts in hiring patterns since the introduction of tools like ChatGPT, with some sectors seeing drops of up to 30% in job demand.
🖼️ The big picture.
Since its emergence, AI's early impact has been swift and sector-specific, creating a more complex hiring landscape than previous technological disruptions. Unlike traditional automation, which primarily affected manufacturing and manual labor, gen AI is reshaping knowledge work, particularly in writing and coding. The changes are happening faster and cutting deeper than previous tech revolutions, with no signs of slowing down.
🧮 By the numbers:
21% overall decrease in automation-prone jobs
30.37% drop in writing-related positions
20.62% decline in software development roles
17.01% decrease in graphic design jobs
8.57% increase in competition for remaining positions
5.71% rise in willingness to pay for complex skills
💼 What this means for TAs.
It's ironic: As AI accelerates job displacement, the need for authentic, human-centered recruitment becomes even more critical. To start, the recruitment playbook needs updating. Focus on identifying candidates with hybrid skill sets – those who can work alongside AI rather than compete with it. Job requirements are becoming more complex, with employers willing to pay more for candidates who can navigate both human and AI capabilities. And, expect to see an increased demand in roles that require emotional intelligence, creative problem-solving, and strategic thinking – areas where humans still maintain a significant edge over AI.
👔 What this means for job seekers.
It's tough love, but now's the time to evolve or risk being obsolete. The most affected sectors (writing, coding, design) require new strategies. But don't get discouraged, and definitely don't put your job search on hold. While some employers are pressing pause, others see this as an opportunity to snap up talent while competition is lower. Target companies that have demonstrated resilience through previous political transitions, and pay attention to sectors less affected by policy changes. Consider developing skills that complement rather than compete with AI, and upskilling in areas showcasing increased demand and pay.
🔮 Looking ahead.
The next wave of change is already building. As AI tools continue to (rapidly) evolve, expect further disruption in knowledge work sectors. However, new opportunities are emerging in AI integration and human-AI collaboration roles. The golden strategy to thriving in this new era will be adaptability and the ability to leverage AI as a tool rather than viewing it as competition. But perhaps most telling is where the market is heading: as routine tasks become automated, employers are already showing they'll pay premium rates for professionals who can combine technical AI fluency with sophisticated human judgment. The future belongs to those who can dance with the robots, not compete with them.
