NEWS
One Thing You Should Know This Week
Green, Clean, and In Between: Tomorrow's Hottest Careers

Hold onto your résumés… The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics has dusted off its crystal ball, and the job market of the future is looking... windy? That's right – wind turbine service technicians are projected to be the fastest-growing occupation over the next decade, with a whopping 60.1% growth rate.

🖼️ The big picture.
The employment landscape is shifting dramatically towards green energy, healthcare, and tech jobs. Here's what you need to know:

  • Green jobs are on the rise: Wind turbine service technicians lead the pack, followed closely by solar photovoltaic installers at 48% projected growth.

  • Healthcare heroes are in high demand: Nurse practitioners (46.3% growth) and physician assistants (28.5% growth) are near the top of the list, driven by an aging population.

  • Tech continues its reign: Data scientists (36% growth) and information security analysts (32.7% growth) are proving that data really is the new oil.

  • Some traditional roles face decline: Word processors and typists are projected to see a 38% decrease.

💨 Where the wind blows…
… according to the 2024 U.S. Energy & Employment Jobs Report:

  • North Dakota (22.3), South Dakota (20.4), and Colorado (13.4) have the most wind energy-related jobs per 10,000 residents.

  • Texas leads in total wind energy jobs with nearly 27,400, more than double the next highest state, Illinois (9,400).

While growth percentages are high, the actual number of jobs remains relatively small. There were 11,400 wind turbine tech jobs nationwide in 2023, compared to 349,600 for nurse practitioners.

💼 What this means for you and yours.

  • For recruiters: It's time to build talent pipelines in these growth areas. Consider partnering with trade schools and universities specializing in green energy, healthcare, and tech fields.

  • For job seekers: Upskilling and reskilling in these growth areas could be your ticket to job security in the coming decade. The writing's on the wall – or rather, in the wind.

⚡️ Keep in mind.
The job market is constantly evolving, and staying ahead of these trends can make all the difference in one's career trajectory. With federal support behind them, wind and solar energy are looking like increasingly safe career bets. Just be prepared to adapt – the job market of tomorrow might look very different from today's.
