A new report shows what really matters to employees in 2024.

👋 Good afternoon, TAs! Hold on…did you just yawn while opening this email? You’re not alone.

A new report from Glassdoor this week shows that worker burnout has reached an all-time high. The company examined mentions of “burnout” in workers’ reviews of their employers and found that the term hit the highest percentage of mentions in the company’s history. Time will tell if these folks are in need of a new job, or just some coffee. ☕️

One Thing You Should Know This Week
Randstad’s 2024 Talent Insights: What Do Workers Really Want?

It turns out employees need more than just a fat paycheck to stay happy on the job, according to a new report this week from HR consulting firm Randstad.

🖼️ The big picture.
Randstad's 2024 Employer Brand Research surveyed over 5,000 Americans, revealing a shift in workplace priorities. While salary still reigns supreme, equity has muscled its way into the top five preferences.

❗Why this matters.

  • The workforce is entering a new era where equity and long-term financial security are taking center stage.

  • Organizations need to look beyond the traditional salary offer to attract and retain top talent.

  • This shift is redefining what it means to be an employer of choice in the coming years.

🧮 By the numbers.

  • Attractive salary remains the #1 most desirable trait in employer value propositions.

  • Equity enters the top five preferences for the first time.

  • A 2% increase in job changes in the latter half of 2023, and a 3% predicted rise in job changes in the next six months seem to underscore a robust trend toward mobility.

  • Almost 50% of workers now work remotely at least part-time, up from 42% in 2023.

🤔 What this means for employers.
For employers, this means adopting fairer pay models and building workplaces where everyone, no matter their background or role, can see a future for themselves. It’s a big challenge that will change what it means to be a top employer in the coming years.

💬 Thinking bigger.
"As we dissect the trends from our latest research, it's clear that the American workforce is entering a new era where equity and longer-term financial security are moving to the forefront of employee priorities," Marc-Etienne Julien, CEO of Randstad North America said in a statement. "This shift is a powerful reminder that organizations must look beyond the traditional salary offer to attract and retain top talent."
